Registration Opens January 31st
Are you excited for our popular Michigan Aurora Workshop? We’ve scheduled the 4th Annual Michigan Aurora Chasers Workshop & Weekend for March 20-22, 2026, with the MI Aurora Workshop taking place from Noon-5:30pm, Saturday, March 21st. Registration for the Workshop is free but it is required to attend. An optional dinner will be served after the workshop at an added cost.
This year, we will bring back the popular #MiAuroraCookie, give away door prizes, and feature presentations on Aurora formations, how to use the Glendale App for Aurora forecasting, Aurora photography, and an intro to photo editing. More details are included on the MI Aurora Workshop webpage.
Get ready! We will open registration at 10:00am ET, January 31st. With 130 spots available, this event will sell out. It sold out in about four hours last year. Guests are asked to register individually so that each person is prompted to sign the liability waiver.
When you register, be sure to consider the other weekend events, including the Kick-Off Party Friday evening, the MI Aurora Experience, and guided Aurora Chase on Friday night, and the MAAC Watercolor Painting Classes on Saturday morning. The Workshop itself will be followed by hands-on camera mentorship or a guided chase in the evening, weather permitting. You can find all of the details on our Events webpage.
Congratulations to April Driscoll, whose photo has won the honor of being featured in the 2026 MI Aurora Workshop graphic!

Introducing the Shape of the Sky Project
Would you like to see your photography published in a beautiful, professionally printed hardcover book?
With submissions slated to open on February 1, the Shape of the Sky Project is a project run by MAC Founder Melissa F. Kaelin to feature over 100 photographs of the Northern Lights — captured by YOU! The project will be compiled over the course of the next 12 months, with the hopes of launching the book into the world by January 2027.
This project will create a hardcover book of Michigan Aurora photographs, featured in full color, that will be available for purchase on-demand, online ordering, or available to any retailers that would like to carry the book. The project will include a multiple-step submission process, as Melissa works to gather First Time Publication Rights for each photo, meaning the photo will be published once and then the ownership of the photo reverts back to you, the photographer.
You’re welcome to join the small Facebook Group designed to chat with community members who are participating in the project at Facebook.com.groups/ShapeOfTheSky.
